"Yukimi-daifuku" Mochi Ice Cream

The weather in Bay Area has been weird for the last couple weeks. One weekend, you thought Spring finally arrived but then the temperature immediately dropped to 50s (10 Celsius) the following week (in the morning).

This weekend was the same again. It has been chilly for the last two days but this Saturday, it suddenly hit 80s (26 Celsius) during the day. My kids and I were not dressed properly for the temperature when we went to a park and we had to escape back to home in less than one hour!

Anyway, although I don't eat ice cream often, when it gets hot, I won't say no to ice cream. I am very particular about my ice cream. I like Haagen-Dazs (strawberry flavor, rum raisin flavor, vanilla flavor, almond chocolate ice cream bar) and Tillamook (only discovered this recently and only tried strawberry flavor). I also stop by gourmet ice cream shop once a while.

However, my absolute favorite ever since I was a kid is mochi ice cream - "Yukimi-daifuku". It directly translates to snow viewing sticky rice cake.

Let me take a bite. HAM!

In fact, there are many locally made mochi ice cream in California. You can also find one from Trader Joe's. But none of them is better than "Yukimi-daifuku" in my opinion.

The mochi (sticky rice wrap outside ice cream) stays soft even if you keep it for a long time in the fridge. Ice cream inside is fluffy and milky (it almost feels like iced whip cream rather than ice cream). You can find other flavor of "Yukimi-daifuku" in an assorted pack (green tea & chocolate). Green tea flavor is yummy too.

If you claim you are also a mochi ice cream fan, you should try this traditional mochi ice cream out at least once!

Lastly, I will try to post how to make mochi ice cream yourself in the future. Stay tuned.

"Awa Soda" Soda Bubble Candy

This candy is similar to Smarties but melts faster with flavor of ラムネ " Ramune " (taste like Sprite) with strange bubbles "Awa" in your mouth (a lot of bubbles!).  Bubbly bubble! If you are either Ramune fan or bubbles fan (imagine bath bubbles melts in your mouth) or both, this is for you! This candy is very unique in its flavor and texture for people outside Japan (I hope it was obvious from my description above). However, I totally forgot about its uniqueness for a moment. Then, I came to realization when my daughter put the candy into her mouth for 2 seconds and then spit out immediately with yikes face.  Yikes! Anyway, since my hubby doesn't eat any candies and my daughter rejected the candy, I decided to keep it all to myself at work. I like "Ramune", candy and bubbles so this is a candy of my dream. Very bubbly! Awa Awa Awawa! If you are up for this sensational bubbly experience in your mouth, check out these items now. Today&

"Caplico" Chocolate Snack

Caplico mini is one of our family's favorite sweet snacks. It's basically "ice-cream on cone" shaped chocolate snack (dry). "Ice-cream" part is made of fluffy textured chocolate. It comes with 3 different flavors - strawberry, vanilla, cacao. "Cone" part is wafer. Inside the "cone", it's stuffed with again, fluffy cacao flavored chocolate.  Yes to strawberry flavor Caplico! Caplico actually comes with "regular size". In my opinion, you easily get tired with one flavor with regular size. On the other, " mini " version is just a perfect size for you to try out another stick with different flavor. Additionally, I noticed that "cone" (wafer part) is also somewhat crunchier with mini than the regular size. Regular size Caplico   Hence, when you purchase one, please make sure you select "mini" Caplico! I selected one for you so check it out.  Today's shopping list: 1.  Gli
